The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) staged a protest in Mumbai on Thursday, alleging that the Modi-led Union government is misusing central investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to suppress the voice of the opposition and target Congress leaders for political gain.
The protest took place near Indiabulls in Dadar, under the leadership of Maharashtra Congress president Harshavardhan Sapkal and in the presence of Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala, who strongly condemned the recent ED actions against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
“The dictatorial Modi government is using the ED and CBI as weapons to eliminate the opposition and silence dissent. The actions against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are politically motivated,” said Chennithala after the protest.
“No matter how many such actions they take, Modi and Shah cannot wipe out the Congress party. These intimidations will not shake our morale; in fact, they strengthen our resolve to fight back against this authoritarianism,” he added.
Speaking to the media, Chennithala said that the Congress party had launched a nationwide protest over two days against the alleged misuse of the ED, with demonstrations held across various districts in Maharashtra as well.
“There is public outrage against the Modi government’s attempt to malign our leaders using central agencies. We condemn this vendetta politics. The Congress party will continue to lead the fight against this misuse of power,” he asserted.
The demonstration witnessed the participation of several senior Congress leaders and workers from across the state. Prominent attendees included Vijay Wadettiwar, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly; Satej Patil, Leader of the Congress party in the Legislative Council; Manikrao Thakare, Goa in-charge; Nana Patole, Former State Congress President; and Naseem Khan, CWC Member.
