Patna – The Bihar government is transforming the state's rural and block-level transport systems while simultaneously creating self-employment opportunities for thousands of youth. Through the Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Yojana (MGPY) and Mukhyamantri Prakhand Parivahan Yojana (MPPY), a total of 45,800 individuals have been selected to receive financial support to purchase passenger vehicles and buses for commercial use.

Bridging Villages to Districts, One Vehicle at a Time

Launched with the vision to improve connectivity in remote villages and provide rural residents better access to cities, these schemes are not just improving transportation but also tackling unemployment. The government is offering subsidies on vehicle purchases to help selected candidates launch their transport-based micro-enterprises.

Over 45,000 Beneficiaries Linked with Employment

As per official data, 45,467 beneficiaries have already availed grants under the Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Yojana. Under this initiative, four-seater to ten-seater passenger vehicles have been subsidized, enabling youth to operate local transport services between their villages and nearby towns or district centers.

Block-Level Boost: Over 3,000 Selected for Bus Purchase

The Mukhyamantri Prakhand Parivahan Yojana has further expanded this initiative at the block level. So far, 3,357 individuals have been chosen to receive support for purchasing buses. Among them, 191 beneficiaries have already procured buses, and 162 have received a total subsidy of ₹8.10 crore from the government to support their ventures.

Twin Solutions: Unemployment and Transport Infrastructure

Transport Minister Sheela Kumari emphasized that improved rural transportation leads to better access to education, healthcare, and trade. She noted that these two flagship schemes have helped solve both unemployment and mobility issues simultaneously across Bihar.

A Step Toward Economic Independence

Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal highlighted the transformative impact of these schemes. “Not only have they made transportation easier in rural areas, but they’ve also turned young individuals into entrepreneurs,” he said. The entire process—from selecting beneficiaries to disbursing subsidies—has been made transparent, digital, and time-bound to ensure efficiency and accessibility.

Subsidy Highlights

  • Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Yojana: In every panchayat, up to seven beneficiaries are eligible for 50% subsidy or up to ₹1 lakh for purchasing small passenger vehicles.

  • Mukhyamantri Prakhand Parivahan Yojana: In each block, up to seven beneficiaries are eligible for a subsidy of ₹5 lakh each for purchasing buses.

Final Word

By empowering youth with resources to own and operate their own vehicles, Bihar's transport schemes are playing a crucial role in building a self-reliant rural economy. As connectivity improves, so does the standard of living, marking a significant step forward in the state’s journey toward inclusive development.
