In a recent development under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban 2025, the Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation has disqualified hundreds of applicants during verification. The move comes as part of a strict screening process to ensure that only eligible individuals receive government aid for housing.

🏠 200 Applicants Disqualified for Already Owning Permanent Homes

Out of the 973 applications received during the third phase in 2023, 200 individuals were found to already own permanent (pucca) houses, which makes them ineligible for the PMAY benefits. Following this discovery, their applications were officially canceled by the administration.

📄 430 Applicants Failed to Submit Required Documents

In addition to the disqualified cases, 430 applicants failed to provide necessary documentation, despite being repeatedly contacted. The Municipal Corporation has now taken a firm stance and announced that these applications will also be canceled without further delay.

As of now, only 343 applications have been approved, and the process of disbursing benefits to these applicants is actively ongoing.

📝 New Applications Invited in 2025

In January 2025, another round of applications was invited. This time, 1128 people applied, and their documents are currently under scrutiny. Housing Scheme Incharge Rozi Masih confirmed that evaluation of these applications is underway to identify genuine beneficiaries.

🔨 1710 Houses Already Built Under PMAY in Muzaffarpur

Till date, 1710 houses have been constructed under PMAY within the city limits. According to officials, beneficiaries who completed construction have already received all four financial installments. However, some recipients are still awaiting the second and third payments, which will be released after verification of construction progress.

⚠️ Action Against 86 Defaulters

In a concerning revelation, 86 beneficiaries took the first and second installments but failed to start construction. Notices have been issued to them, and the administration is now planning legal action to recover the allocated funds.

Rozi Masih stated that the recovery process is underway and strict measures will be taken against those who misuse the scheme’s provisions.

The strict scrutiny highlights the government's intent to maintain transparency and ensure that benefits reach deserving and genuinely needy families. If you’ve applied or plan to apply for PMAY, make sure to meet all eligibility criteria and submit the required documents on time to avoid rejection.
