To become a doctor in the Indian Army, the candidate has to be admitted to the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. Candidates get admission to this college based on the score obtained in the NEET Exam. That is, only those with good scores get admission here. AFMC is a reputed medical training institute and is supervised by the Indian Armed Forces.

The cutoff of AFMC is not always the same, it keeps changing every year. But looking at the previous cutoff, a score of 600+ can be considered secure for the students of the general category.

After passing NEET

Two ways to become a doctor in the army

There are two ways to become a doctor in the army, Short Service Commission (SSC) and Permanent Commission (PC). Candidates who are already MBBS or BDS graduates can apply for short commission recruitment issued by the Indian Army/Navy/Air Force.

The second is permanent commission. This is for those who have passed the 12th examination and given the NEET exam. Admission to AFMC is then done based on the score obtained in NEET. After completing medical studies from AFMC, candidates are appointed as doctors in one of the three armies permanently.
