CGHS Card Rule: There is good news for the employees of the Central Government. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a new directive regarding the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) card. According to the new guidelines of the ministry, if the contribution is being deducted every month from the salary of a government employee under CGHS, then it is mandatory to give him a CGHS service card, even if he has not applied for the card.
The government wants to ensure that the employees do not miss out on the health benefits available on this card due to not applying for the CGHS card.
Order to issue CGHS cards to employees giving contribution
This directive of the Ministry of Health orders all ministries and departments to issue CGHS cards to those employees whose salary CGHS contribution is being deducted regularly. The memorandum also highlights that many employees do not apply for CGHS cards despite making contributions.
The ministry said that in such cases, it is not right to deprive them of CGHS facilities. The purpose of automatically issuing CGHS cards without application is to ensure that no contributing employee is deprived of the benefits he is entitled to.
It is not necessary to apply separately for the card
CGHS is a compulsory health scheme, and for employees whose residential area falls in the CGHS dispensary zone, their CGHS contribution is automatically deducted from their salary every month. The ministry's office memorandum clearly states that these employees don't need to apply separately for CGHS cards.
The memorandum states that "if CGHS contribution is being deducted from the salary of a government employee every month, then it would be wrong to deny the benefit of CGHS facility to a government employee only on the ground that he has not applied for a CGHS card in the administrative branch."
Action will be taken for not issuing CGHS cards.
This decision has been taken to provide equal health services to all eligible government employees.
Apart from this, the Health Ministry has directed the administrative branches to ensure that CGHS cards are automatically issued to eligible employees. If any employee does not apply despite repeated information, then the concerned officer should be informed about it, so that appropriate action can be taken.
Government employees will be able to get the benefit of health services.
This step is expected to provide relief to those central government employees who are contributing to CGHS but have not been able to get CGHS cards made. Now it will be the responsibility of the department to issue cards to such employees. This initiative will not only increase trust in the system but will also ensure that healthcare services are accessible to all contributing workers.
