The Lucknow-Kanpur Motorway is scheduled to open for travel in July of this year, which is a significant development for commuters. The six-lane motorway connects two major Uttar Pradesh cities over a distance of 63 km. According to an India TV article, the LKE’s ability to be expanded to eight lanes in the future is one of its most significant qualities.

The motorway will drastically cut travel time from the present 1.5–3 hours to 35–40 minutes once it is operational.

Beginning in Lucknow, it will link Bani, Kantha, and Amarsas before coming to a terminus close to Azad Marg in Kanpur. In March 2019, the motorway’s foundation stone was set. In December 2020, it was published in the Indian Gazette as National Highway 6.

For travellers arriving at Lucknow Airport, the motorway will be an essential connection.

The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway’s characteristics
Between Amausi and Bani, there will be two elevated sections of the motorway.

There will be 38 underpasses, 6 flyovers, 28 minor bridges and 3 major bridges on the motorway. Additionally, there will be designated access and departure locations on the motorway.

Eighty cent of the building has been finished as of February 2025, with the remaining twenty cent anticipated to be finished by July 2025.

The project is being carried out using the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) approach and has a cost of Rs 4,700 crore.

The Lucknow-Kanpur Motorway has a speed restriction established by the government. According to sources, the motorway’s speed limit is 120 km/h.

According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the motorway will include five toll plazas. These plazas will be positioned at the entrance and departure locations to provide seamless and unhindered travel.
