Manchester City legend Kevin de Bruyne is set to leave the Premier League club at the end of the season, the Belgian midfielder announced on Friday.
“Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading. So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player.
“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here- and you deserve to hear it from me first,” De Bruyne wrote on social media.
Having joined Manchester City in 2015 from VfL Wolfsburg, the 33-year-old won 16 trophies with the Premier League side, including the historic treble in the 2022-23 season.

In his very first season, he scored 16 goals and assisted 15 more to be voted the club’s best player of the season. He has 106 goals and 174 assists in 413 appearances at the club and will leave Manchester as one of the greatest midfielders to have played in the Premier League.
“Football led me to all of you and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me everything.
“I had no choice but to give everything back! And guess what we won everything. Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye.”
“Suri, Rome, Mason, Michèle, and I are beyond grateful for what this place has meant to our family. “Manchester” will forever be on our kids’ passports- and more importantly, in each of our hearts. This will always be our HOME,” the Belgian added.
De Bruyne has been instrumental in City’s rise to the dominant force in English football.

He was twice crowned players’ player of the year in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 and is second in the Premier League’s all-time standings for assists on 118.
His contract is due to expire at the end of June but it remains unclear whether he will continue to see out his days as a City player at the Club World Cup, which runs from June 14 until July 13.
