The summer season is very difficult in many ways. Many types of problems often remain a problem for people in this season. One of these is the problem of migraine, which causes severe headaches in many people. Migraine is often triggered especially due to changes in diet, lifestyle, and weather. Dehydration, irregular meals, and poor sleep patterns contribute to migraine headaches.

In such a situation, if you fast, then this problem can increase even more. People often fast for religious reasons or health, but managing migraine during this time becomes a problem for many people. In such a situation, today in this article, we will learn from Dr. Amrit SD, Consultant Neurologist at Manipal Hospitals Goa, how with the right planning you can reduce the risk of migraine during fasting.

Take care of sleep hygiene.

Shifting to a different routine can be difficult, but it is important to maintain a regular sleep schedule. Getting 7-8 hours of good sleep, not using screens before bedtime, hot showers, meditation, and following good sleep habits will reduce the chances of migraine triggers.

Meal planning
A healthy diet can help reduce the incidence of migraine attacks. Eat less junk, sweet, and salty foods before fasting to keep glucose levels under control. To maintain energy levels, eat protein-rich foods such as yogurt, meat, and fish, as well as fiber-rich foods, fruits, and dry fruits. Do not overeat to avoid bloating.

Lifestyle changes

Regular physical activity such as walking, breathing techniques, and yoga help release endorphins that help relieve pain.

Hydration
Dehydration is a major migraine trigger. In such a situation, drink enough water to keep yourself hydrated. Include high-water foods like watermelon and cucumber in the diet. Do not drink sugary drinks and caffeinated soda.

Caffeine management
If you drink caffeine regularly, reduce your intake before the fast to avoid migraine headaches. Also, eat a little before the fast to avoid migraine pain.

Consult a doctor
Before starting fasting, consult your doctor to find out if it is safe for you. Also, know from them whether you are at risk of getting migraine. This will not only give you the right advice but also ways to avoid it.

Methods to reduce migraine pain
There are many medicines available to treat migraine. Some of these are given based on severity, such as triptans in the form of nasal spray, which work quickly. If the problem is severe, consult a neurologist. Apart from this, a cold or hot compress, massage on the temple, sunglasses, and umbrella can help reduce the symptoms.
