Whatsapp's bang feature: Now read the voice message, no need to listen!

Obnews Tech Desk: A new feature has been released in WhatsApp iOS, which allows users to decide whether the voice message is transcription automatically or manually. With the help of this feature, users can now read its text form instead of listening to the audio of a voice message – that too directly in the message bubble.

Excess control is available in transcription feature

Now WhatsApp's Settings> Chats> Voice Message Transcripts section connects a new option from where users can choose three types of settings:

  • Automatic Transcription: The text of every voice message will appear automatically
  • Manual Transcription: Users will get a button, so that they can generate transcription whenever they want
  • Turning off transcription: If someone does not find this feature necessary, then they can also disable it completely

Who can use this feature?

This feature is available only on a device with iOS 16 or new version. Apple is transcription using the on-device language model, causing the user's privacy. Supported languages ​​include:

  • iOS 16+: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Arabic
  • iOS 17+: Dainish, Finnish, Hebrew, Mall, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Thai

Your privacy is safe

The entire process of transcription takes place on the device, no voice message is uploaded on the outer server. That is, your data remains completely end-to-end encrypted.

Public rollout will soon be out of testing phase

Currently, this feature is only available for limited beta testers, but some iOS users who are using the stable version of WhatsApp have also started seeing this option. It is being speculated that the company may soon release this feature on a large scale.
