On Friday, the last day of competition, Himanshu won the boys’ javelin throw event, earning India’s only gold medal in the continental tournament.

With an initial throw of 67.57 meters, the Indian child won the gold, surpassing Lu Hao of the People’s Republic of China (63.45 meters) and Ruslan Sadullaev of Uzbekistan (61.96 meters).

At the Asian U18 Athletics Championships, this was also India’s first-ever gold medal in the boys’ javelin throw event.

Nitin Gupta won the silver medal in the boys’ 5000m race walk event on the second day of the tournament on April 16, marking India’s first podium finish in the sixth edition of the juvenile continental athletics championships.

Zhu Ninghao of China finished only 0.01 seconds ahead of the 17-year-old Army Boys Sports Company cadet, who finished in 20:21.51 seconds.

Nitin lost ground in the last surge, but he had a little lead going into the last 100m of the exhausting race. At first, it seemed that the adolescent could have lost a lot of money for an early celebration, then Nitin came out to refute the idea.

Tannu, who placed second in the 400m, was the first Indian athlete to win a medal at Dammam among the females. She finished behind Imamine Saki of Japan (57.27) with a time of 57.63. Edwina Jason of India finished sixth in the event with a timing of 58.46 seconds.

With two gold from the Dammam competition, Nischay was yet another notable member of the Indian team.

After winning bronze in the discus throw with a haul of 58.85 meters, the 16-year-old took home the silver medal in the boys’ shot put with a personal best performance of 19.59 meters.

In the girls’ 100- and 200-meter sprint competitions, Aarti also took home bronze. In the 100 and 200 meters, she set new personal records of 11.93 and 24.31 seconds, respectively.

In the girls’ relay event, Aarti, Prisha Mishra, Edwina Jason, and Tannu recorded a did not finish (DNF).

Anchal Sajesh Patil came just short of placing on the podium in the girls’ high jump, one of the near-misses.

Although the Indian athlete achieved the same height (1.65m) as Kuwaiti bronze medalist Yasmeen Roy, she lost out because she cleared the height on her second try rather than Roy’s first.

At the most recent Asian U18 Athletics Championships, which were held in Tashkent in 2023, India ended with an impressive 24 medals.

Rezoana Mallick Heena led the campaign with three medals, including two golds (Indian girls team relay and girls 400m) and one silver (girls 200m). The total tally includes six golds, eleven silvers, and seven bronze.
