Bhubaneswar: Renowned journalist Ratikanta Mohanty passed away on Saturday morning at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, as confirmed by his family.


At the age of 70, Mohanty leaves behind his wife, Sipra, and two daughters, Puja and Bandana.


His family revealed that he had been battling kidney issues for several years.


Over his impressive four-decade-long career, Mohanty contributed to numerous news organizations and was recognized as a trailblazer in political journalism.


Condolences have poured in from various political figures, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.


Majhi expressed his sorrow on social media, stating, "I am deeply saddened by the news of Ratikanta Mohanty’s passing. Known affectionately as Rati Bhai, he was a prominent figure in both social and political spheres. His integrity and commitment to journalism will be remembered. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and pray for his soul's peace."


A statement from Patnaik's office highlighted Mohanty's unwavering dedication to journalism, noting, "His integrity and talent were unmatched. We have lost a legendary journalist and a remarkable individual."
