KASGANJ: According to a senior police officer, the primary suspect in the gang rape of a lady in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody after a run-in with the law.

They said that on Friday night, Yogesh, also known as Block Pramukh, opened fire on the police squad, who retaliated by shooting him in the leg.

The 30-year-old is one of ten individuals who are suspected of participating in the April 10 gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in Kasganj.

Police said that at around 10.30 p.m., they motioned for a suspicious motorcyclist to halt on Tatarpur Road, but the motorcyclist fled while shooting at the squad. Yogesh’s leg was struck by a gunshot when police retaliated in self-defense. He is receiving treatment at a hospital after being admitted.

According to authorities, a combined squad from Kasganj’s Kotwali police station, the SOG, and the surveillance team conducted the encounter while conducting a check on Tatarpur Road.

A white motorbike without a license plate, two live and two empty cartridges, a revolver, and the victim’s stolen earrings have all been found by the police.

Together with her 17-year-old fiancé, a 16-year-old girl went to get her ration card created on April 10. They were seated by a canal after returning from the District Supply Officer’s (DSO) office when ten or so individuals arrived and reportedly led them into some bushes.

Others stole the girl’s Rs 5,000 cash and gold jewelry while three guys reportedly sexually assaulted her. The lawsuit also claims that they used UPI to take Rs 5,000 from her fiance’s phone.
