Fans React as Vaibhav Suryavanshi: At the age of 14 years and 23 days, Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi, on Saturday, became the youngest debutant in IPL history when he was brought in as the Impact Sub by Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
In a vital encounter for RR, Suryavanshi gave the first glimpse of his talent and raw potential with a stunning knock of 34 runs off 20 balls, with three sixes and two fours.
Suryavanshi got this opportunity as RR skipper Sanju Samson was ruled out of this contest due to an abdominal strain that he had sustained during their previous match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 16.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made his first-class debut in January last year at the age of only 13, was picked up by RR for INR 1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Everyone waited in anticipation to see what this kid had to offer in his debut innings as RR set off on their chase to the target of 181.
Well, Suryavanshi teed off from the first ball he faced in his IPL career by smoking the seasoned campaigner Shardul Thakur for a huge six over cover!
That left everyone’s jaws hanging, with commentator Murali Kartik left speechless; for the first few moments after the shot was played, Kartik could only scream as he didn’t find any words to describe the incredulity at what we were witnessing.
On the third ball he faced, he tonked speedster Avesh Khan down the ground for a six after clearing his front leg to maximise the space and power. His third six came after the powerplay off leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi with a huge six over mid-wicket this time. In between, he collected a couple of fours off Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh as well.
Suryavanshi’s memorable debut innings came to an end when he was stumped swiftly by Rishabh Pant off Aiden Markram’s bowling. Of the 34 runs he scored, 26 came off boundaries. His knock, though, went in vain as RR lost by only two runs. However, Suryavanshi was all over the internet.
