Renowned Hollywood actress and humanitarian activist Angelina Jolie publicly denounced the current Israeli military assault in Gaza on social media, calling attention to the escalating humanitarian crisis and standing in support of the Palestinian people.

Jolie, renowned for her blunt defense of world human rights cases, reposted an originally released statement by global medical humanitarian agency Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières). The statement raises alarm at the acute and deteriorating Gaza crisis in which both civilians and humanitarian aid workers alike are facing gross hardship under mounting violence.

In the common message, it was said, “Gaza has become a graveyard for Palestinians and those who risk their lives to offer aid.” The post highlights the huge magnitude of devastation and the difficulties of medical teams and humanitarian workers attempting to offer relief in the blockaded area.

Doctors Without Borders also reported that the Israeli army stepped up the offensive in Gaza, striking with air, land, and sea forces. These attacks have resulted in mass displacement, destruction of civilian facilities, and the intentional denial of life-saving humanitarian assistance. The group decried forced displacements of thousands of Palestinians and targeted interruption of medical and emergency services and demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities and unobstructed access for humanitarian assistance.

Angelina Jolie’s posting of this message is consistent with her longtime interest in human rights and her activism to draw world attention to civilians’ suffering during conflict. Her message has been widely followed by thousands who expressed solidarity and repetition of the messages of peace and justice in the region.

Jolie becomes part of an increasing group of global voices calling for accountability, an instantaneous ceasefire, and the safeguarding of innocent lives during one of the worst humanitarian crises of recent history.
