These updates on hiring, salary hikes, by the IT sector are impacted by the current uncertain economic situation globally.

Indian IT giants are changing their hiring strategies and workforce policies as per economic challenges and tariff concerns. In financial disclosures for the quarter/year ending March 31, 2025, IT companies like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro shared updates on hiring plans, salary revisions, headcount changes, and layoffs.

TCS

Hiring
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to recruit 42,000 freshers in FY26, which is almost similar to its hiring numbers of the previous fiscal year. Chief Human Resource Officer Milind Lakkad shared this update during the company’s earnings press conference.

Salary Hike
This year, TCS didn’t give its usual April salary hikes, deferred from its standard increment cycle.

Headcount and Layoffs

Attrition rate: 13.3% for the quarter ending March 31, 2025.

Headcount : The total headcount rose to 6,07,979 which is an increase from 6,01,546 in Q4 FY24, with 6,433 new employees added.

Layoffs: While TCS has not officially announced layoffs, but Bloomberg reported allegations of biased practices in layoffs in the U.S., which the company denied.

Infosys

Hiring
Infosys plans to hire over 20,000 freshers in FY26. For FY25, the company added 6,388 employees which made its total workforce to 323,578, up from 317,240 in the previous year.

Salary Hike

A portion of salary hikes was given in January and a letter was rolled out from April 1.

Average hike: 5-8%, lower than the previous year.Top performers received hikes of 10-12%.

Headcount and Layoffs

Attrition rate: 14.1% in Q4 FY25, up from 13.7% in the previous quarter.

Layoffs: According to several media reports, Infosys terminated 300 trainees earlier this year after they failed in evaluation tests.

Wipro

Hiring
Wipro hired around 12,000 freshers from campuses in FY25 but didn’t disclose its FY26 hiring target. The company added 612 employees during the March 2025 quarter.

Salary Hike
Wipro has not given any update regarding salary hikes and said that decisions will be made closer to the implementation date.

Headcount and Layoffs

Attrition rate: 15%, little down from 15.3% in the previous quarter.

Workforce: The total headcount increased to 2,33,346 employees, with a net addition of 1,032 employees in FY25.

Layoffs: There have been no official reports of layoffs at Wipro.
