Michael Slater, the former Aussie cricket player, has been arrested for domestic violence. The 55-year-old has played 74 Test matches for Australia, scoring over 5,300 runs. He also played in 42 One Day Internationals where he added almost 1,000 runs to his record. Slater has been sentenced to four years in prison but will be released right away on a suspended sentence.

He was sentenced on April 22 in Maroochydore District Court after admitting to seven charges, which included two counts of choking a woman. He also faced other serious charges like stalking, assault, and burglary to an incident that happened in December 2023 on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Police found abusive texts Slater had sent to a woman in March 2024.

He’s spent more than a year in custody and had tried multiple times to get bail, but all attempts were denied. This time, the judge handed down a four-year prison term, but Slater will only serve part of it since he already spent time in jail. If he breaks any serious laws over the next five years, he could be sent back to serve the rest of his sentence.

In August 2024, it came to light that Slater has struggled with mental health issues, including alcohol problems. His lawyer argued for bail, stressing the need for him to go to rehab in New South Wales. Slater has a past record; in 2021, he was arrested for harassing a woman, sending her dozens of texts and making multiple phone calls.
