Details: UP Government Will Increase Green Cover With More Than 35 Crore Plant Saplings, Including Fruit And Medicinal Species

In an attempt to improve green cover, the Uttar Pradesh administration, led by Yogi Adityanath, plans to plant over 35 crore saplings during monsoon season. With 49.22 crore saplings being prepared in the department’s nurseries and an extra 1.88 crore in the horticulture and sericulture departments, the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Department has started preparations, bringing the total number of saplings to over 51.10 crore.

More than 20%, or 7 crore seedlings, will be fruit-bearing trees, continuing the trend from prior years. The planting will also include attractive, medicinal, feed, wood, and environmental species. at preparation for the monsoon planting effort, a large number of species are being grown at the nurseries.

Teak, rosewood, catechu, sandalwood, ebony, bamboo, silk cotton tree, sal, palm, bakli, kumbi, and camphor are examples of timber species. Palash, holy fig, peepal, banyan, casuarina, kanji, katsagon, khamer, gutel, chilbil, and dhak are examples of environmental species.

In the forest department’s nurseries, more than 27 fruit-bearing tree species—including medicinal ones like bael, Indian gooseberry, wood apple, Java plum, black plum, and myrobalan—are being developed.

Custard apple, pomegranate, jackfruit, chironji, papaya, karonda, lemon, Indian plum, fig, cluster fig, mahua, monkey, guava, mulberry, date palm, jungle jalebi, tamarind, pomegranate, and jujube are some of the other fruit trees. According to Sunil Chaudhary, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, fruit trees will make up 20% of the whole planting, continuing a tradition from prior years.

Neem, arjuna, ashoka, kadam, kanak champa, oleander, acacia, silver oak, Indian almond, night-blooming jasmine, hibiscus, rose, gold mohar, bougainvillea, maulsari, sami, rohan, tamal, haldu, and drumstick are among the fragrant and medicinal plants.

Kusum, bakain, babool, kachnar, white siris, golden shower tree, albizia amara, black siris, bottlebrush, jacaranda, acacia, and August flower are among the more than 32 varieties of decorative plants and feed that are being produced.
