For the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League (CWCL) 2 series, which will be played in the Netherlands from May 4–16, Chris McBride has been called up to the Scotland side.
Scotland will play three 50-over matches against the United Arab Emirates in Amstelveen and Utrecht after playing two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against the Netherlands. Finlay McCreath obtains his first full international call-up after making an impression on the current tour of Zimbabwe, including a century against Zimbabwe ‘A’, while McBride is called up to the team for the first time since 2023.
“I’m thrilled that Finlay McCreath has this opportunity; he’s been working really hard at his game for a long time, and his domestic cricket numbers have been outstanding.”
The return of Chris McBride to the team is also fantastic. He has had a difficult year due to his lack of international involvement, but he has had some outstanding domestic performances in 2024 and has worked hard on his game over the winter in South Africa, according to a statement from Steve Snell, Head of Performance for Cricket Scotland.
Additionally, according to Cricket Scotland, other players who were left off the team were given consideration for selection but were unavailable for a variety of reasons, including job, personal obligations, or county commitments in England.
As reliable and successful results in Cricket World Cup League 2 are essential to our chances of qualifying for the 2027 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, this year is crucial for us.
“The team is in Zimbabwe right now, which is great preparation for such a significant summer. It has also given us the chance to give emerging players a chance to make an impression and play in 50-over cricket this year.”
“Obviously, players from international teams, especially those that are successful, are vying for spots, and the quality of players in and out of the squad is very high, so there is fierce competition for spots, which will only make the team stronger going forward,” Snell said.
Team Scotland: Michael Leask, Chris McBride, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Charlie Tear, Mark Watt, Charlie Cassell, Matthew Cross, Bradley Currie, Jasper Davidson, Chris Greaves, Jack Jarvis, and Richie Berrington (captain).
