Islamabad: According to The News International, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) celebrated its 29th anniversary of founding on Friday and called for the release of its founder, Imran Khan, as well as other party officials and employees.
The party promised to keep fighting for the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution.
The PTI officials overwhelmingly approved a resolution at a ceremony celebrating the party’s founding day at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House. Ali Amin Gandapur, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was among the PTI leaders who attended the event.
The resolution demanded that all political detainees, including PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, be released and denounced Imran Khan’s “illegal” incarceration.
“The country answered the call of its leader Imran Khan and won the PTI with a giant majority in the February 8, 2024 elections,” said the PTI resolution.
Regrettably, the party pilfered its mandate. This act is an assault on the Constitution and a plunder of the people’s rights. We vehemently call for the reinstatement of our valid mandate.
The party created by Imran Khan denounced the continued fascism and persecution in Pakistan in the resolution. According to The News International, it called for the reinstatement of fundamental human rights and freedoms of expression, including freedom of the press, and of the individual, which have been suspended in Pakistan.
The resolution said, “The 26th Amendment to the Constitution has significantly undermined the judiciary. We also insist that the Constitution be restored to its original shape and that the Supreme Court’s honor be restored,” according to The News International.
Omar Ayub Khan, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, remarked during the event that “the 29th foundation day of the PTI is dedicated to the martyrs of May 9 and November 26 and to the political prisoners imprisoned for the struggle for true freedom and democracy in the country.”
He said the PTI’s fight was for the Constitution’s supremacy and the rule of law. He said, “We will continue this struggle until the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law are truly established in the country.” PTI chairman Asad Qaiser, meanwhile, said, “We want a judicial system in which the entire nation can trust.”
Imran Khan’s family members and a number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentarians were temporarily arrested Thursday in the vicinity of Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, earlier on April 17, according to The Express Tribune.
Omar Ayub, the National Assembly’s opposition leader; Ahmed Khan Bhachar, the Punjab Assembly’s opposition leader; Sahibzada Hamid Raza; Imran Khan’s three sisters, Aleema, Uzma, and Noreen Khan; and their cousin Qasim Khan were all detained on Thursday. Police later let them all go.
As the politicians were being loaded into the police truck, PTI posted the footage on the social networking site X. Aleema Khan and Omar Ayub testified that officers drove them on an enigmatic drive across the city in a prison van, stopping at locations like a restaurant and a gas station before releasing them.
