His final director venture Jab Tak Hai Jaan remains one of the most celebrated films in his illustrious career. The legendary filmmaker brought Shah Rukh Khan Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma together on-screen for the first time. Made on a budget of Rs 78 crore Jab Tak Hai Jaan emerged as a box office hit earning Rs 210.25 crore worldwide. Bankrolled under the banner of Yash Raj Films Yash Chopras directorial minted Rs 12.5 crore on its opening day. It collected USD 13.25 million overseas becoming one of the highest-grossing films overseas back then. As far its domestic box office collections are concerned Jab Tak Hai Jaan earned Rs 137.75 crore. The total India net collection of Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer was Rs 101.5 crore. Released during Diwali Jab Tak Hai Jaan received mixed responses from audience and critics. Yash Chopras directorial clashed with Son of Sardaar at the box office. Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinhas film was also a hit at the box office. Both the film earned the highest-ever total collections on a single date in India. According to reports Deepika Padukone was earlier approached for the lead role but she declined it due to unknown reasons. Later the role went to Katrina Kaif and she was cast as Shah Rukh Khans love interest in the film. SRK played the role of Major Samar Anand a solider for the Bomb Disposal Squad in the Indian Army. Anusha Sharma portrayed the role of Akira Rai a documentary filmmaker. Jab Tak Hai Jaan won over 26 awards including Best Supporting actress to Anushka Sharma Best lyrics to Gulzar and more.
