New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have arrived in Delhi to face off against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. However RCB supporters were hit with disappointing news at the toss. In-form batter Phil Salt was ruled out due to a fever. Filling in for him English all-rounder Jacob Bethell was handed his IPL debut and opened the innings alongside Virat Kohli.
In his very first outing Bethell etched his name into the record books. At just 21 years and 186 days he became the youngest overseas player to debut for RCB in the IPL surpassing Shimron Hetmyer who made his debut for the franchise in 2019 at 22 years and 87 days.

Jacob Bethells first IPL appearance was brief lasting just six deliveries during which he scored 12 runs before being dismissed by Axar Patel.
After being asked to bat first Delhi Capitals got off to a steady beginning. However Josh Hazlewood delivered the first breakthrough by dismissing Abhishek Porel for 28. Karun Nair followed soon after managing only 4 runs. Faf du Plessis also struggled before being sent back for 22 courtesy of Krunal Pandya. Skipper Axar Patel couldn’t make a big impact either falling to Hazlewood after scoring 13.
KL Rahul tried to build some rhythm after settling in but was dismissed for 41. Impact Player Ashutosh Sharma didnt last long departing almost immediately. Later Tristan Stubbs and Vipraj Nigam injected some late momentum into the innings with Stubbs hitting a quick 34 off 18 balls. Delhi ended their 20 overs at 162/8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the standout performer with three wickets while Hazlewood supported well with a couple of dismissals.
