Government's Decision to Ban Channels

In a significant move, the Indian government has prohibited 16 YouTube channels from Pakistan for disseminating inflammatory and misleading content aimed at India, its military, and security forces. This decision was made following recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs, particularly in the wake of the tragic terror incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The channels that have been banned include notable names such as Dawn News, Irshad Bhatti, SAMAA TV, ARY NEWS, BOL NEWS, Raftar, The Pakistan Reference, Geo News, Samaa Sports, GNN, Uzair Cricket, Umar Cheema Exclusive, Asma Shirazi, Muneeb Farooq, SUNO News HD, and Razi Naama.

These platforms were found guilty of spreading disinformation that jeopardizes India's national security, foreign relations, and public order, with a combined viewership exceeding 63.08 million.

The content shared by these channels was aimed at inciting panic, fostering communal discord, and disrupting public peace in India, as stated in an official announcement.

They were particularly focused on fabricating news regarding the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir, and India's diplomatic relations in the context of the Pahalgam terror attack.

In a related action, India also withheld the official X account of the Government of Pakistan following the devastating Pahalgam attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians and numerous injuries.

In response to this attack, India initiated a robust diplomatic strategy, summoning Pakistan's chief diplomat in New Delhi, Saad Ahmad Warraich, and issuing a formal Persona Non Grata notice to all Pakistani military attaches.

These actions are part of a broader series of retaliatory measures taken by India after Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the assault as a 'cowardly attack on innocent civilians.'

The attack, attributed to the Pakistan-based terrorist group The Resistance Front, has heightened tensions between the two nations.

In light of the incident, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, has announced several strict measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari-Wagah border, cancellation of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani citizens, expulsion of Pakistan's military attaches from New Delhi, and a reduction in diplomatic personnel at both High Commissions.
