Bhubaneswar: On Monday evening, the Congress party organized a protest in Bhubaneswar, claiming that the current BJP-led administration poses a threat to the Constitution.
Carrying torches, banners, and posters, a large crowd participated in the 'Samvidhan Bachao' (Save the Constitution) march, which proceeded from Rajmahal Square to the Congress Bhavan.
Prominent figures such as Bhakta Charan Das, the state Congress president, Ajay Kumar Lallu, the party's Odisha in-charge, and Rama Chandra Kadam, the leader of the Congress Legislature Party, spearheaded the event.
Lallu accused BJP officials of persistently undermining the Constitution.
He stated, 'The remarks made by BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma regarding Supreme Court judges, along with ongoing assaults on the Constitution, prompted Rahul Gandhi to initiate the 'Samvidhan Bachao' campaign. Similar rallies are taking place nationwide.'
Lallu further claimed that SC, ST, and OBC communities in Odisha are being denied their rights.
Despite OBCs constituting 54% of Odisha's population, they receive only 11.25% reservation in government jobs and none in education, he noted.
According to the Mandal Commission's recommendations, OBCs should be entitled to 27% reservation.
Das remarked that the rally was a success, even in the face of a thunderstorm.
'In the near future, we plan to conduct similar rallies in various districts, assembly segments, and villages throughout the state,' he added.
