New Delhi, India When Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke many records with his bouncy performance against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 18th Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday night in Jaipur, his childhood coach, Brajesh Jha, was ecstatic and beaming with pride.
In the current season of the lucrative league, talent kept emerging, and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) discovered a new star while chasing a 210-run goal. A 14-year-old boy named Suryavanshi made history by leaving the cricket world in awe with his daring 101.
The youthful southpaw helped elevate Rajasthan’s morale by opening the door for their decisive 8-wicket victory and single-handedly shattering the backbone of GT’s 209/4 defense.
The Rajasthan Royals broke the bank last year when they had to pay Rs 1.1 crore for a juvenile who was 13 years old. Although Suryavanshi’s price tag made headlines, the sum wasn’t shocking given his prior success for Bihar on the Indian domestic circuit.
In April, Suryavanshi, who has 694 international appearances, showed his mettle against GT’s polished bowling attack, breaking the shackles and turning up the heat in Jaipur. As Rajasthan ended its five-match losing run in a royal way, he went all guns blazing, put on an explosive 101(38) to excite the crowd, and forced Yashasvi Jaiswal to take a backseat.
“This is a really happy issue. Everyone is proud of him. The district is pleased with how it performed. History has been created by him. As his coach, I’m very pleased with his performance,” Suryavanshi’s coach, Brajesh Jha, told ANI.
The technique that Suryavanshi has embraced and developed is a noteworthy component of his ability to muscle the ball away at such a young age. His bat can cover a lot of ground in a short period of time.
When he coils up, his gloves are over shoulder level behind him because his bat is so high. When his stroke is finished, it is a full swing, often in a circle, and rests over his other shoulder.
Vijay Zol, who was 18 years and 118 days old when he struck 109 against Mumbai in 2013, was surpassed by Suryavanshi, who was 14 years and 32 days old, to become the youngest player to hit a century in T20 cricket.
He became the second-fastest player to get a century in the IPL after reaching the three-digit mark in only 35 deliveries, behind only ‘Universal Boss’ Chris Gayle’s 2013 30-ball century against Pune Warriors.
