Hinduism places great religious significance to Parshuram Jayanti, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. This lucky day falls on Friday, April 29, 2025, which is also Akshaya Tritiya, a day renowned for its ever-growing benefits.
The date and time of the 2025 Parshuram Jayanti
The Hindu Panchang states that Parshuram Jayanti happens during the month of Vaishakh on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha. The precise times are:
• Tithi Tritiya At 5:31 PM on April 29, 2025, it starts
• Tithi Tritiya Ends at 2:12 PM on April 30, 2025
It is customary to pray at Pradosh Kaal, which is said to be the period when Lord Parshuram appears.
The sixth manifestation of Lord Vishnu is Lord Parshuram, who was born to Rishi Jamadagni and Renuka. Parshuram was originally called Ram and was renowned for his great strength and short fuse. He became known as Parshuram after studying weapons with Lord Shiva, who subsequently gave him an axe.
Parshuram is a special warrior-sage who belongs to the Chiranjivi, immortal creatures that are meant to endure many Yugas. It is said that he reappears to instruct Lord Kalki, the last manifestation of Vishnu, after having taught great fighters like Bhishma, Dronacharya, and Karna.
The day honors discipline, morality, and divine justice. Parshuram defended sages, chastised dishonest Kshatriyas, and battled evil powers. Prayer to Lord Parshuram, according to devotees, gives bravery, wealth, and defense against adversaries. His arrival is also strongly associated with Akshaya Tritiya, which is seen as a very fortunate period to buy gold or start new business endeavors.
During Brahma Muhurat, devotees get up, take a bath in Gangajal, and change into fresh clothing to start the day. Offerings made to Lord Parshuram and the Sun God consist of
Yellow blossoms
Yellow candies
Rituals of Aarti and Archana
People observe fasting all day long. Devotees break their fast with fruits after evening prayers or skip meals till the next day.
According to Parshuram’s tale, King Kartavirya Arjuna killed him after he forcibly took the sacred cow Kamdhenu from Jamadagni’s ashram. Parshuram fought the Kshatriyas for 21 generations in revenge until Sage Ruchika stepped in.
In a different story, Jamadagni instructed his sons to put his wife Renuka to death because he believed she was mentally unfaithful. Others resisted, but Parshuram did as he was told. His brothers were restored, Renuka was brought back to life, and he was given longevity and invincibility by the pleased Jamadagni.
According to a lesser-known legend, Lord Ganesha was given the name Ekadanta when Parshuram once crushed his teeth out of rage.
Despite being a Brahmin by birth, Parshuram acted aggressively like a Kshatriya. This was explained by a legend about his grandmother Satyavati, who inadvertently ingested a ritual intended for her mother. Consequently, her grandson Parshuram was destined to be a warrior, whereas her son Jamadagni received Brahmin features.
Akshaya Tritiya, which is celebrated on the same day, is said to bring endless luck and signifies the beginning of the Treta Yuga. Purchasing gold and starting new businesses are said to be very profitable on this day. People give food and grains to the poor, worship Lord Vishnu, and recite Vishnu Sahasranama.
April 29, 2025, is Parshuram Jayanti, which is more than just a birthday holiday. It is a day to embrace morality, consider the virtues of mythology, and ask Lord Vishnu’s ferocious avatar for favors. Indian devotees honor this everlasting guardian of Dharma via spiritual practices, fasting, and customary ceremonies.
