A financial incentive of Rs 10 lakh has been granted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for adolescent batting star Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who broke the century mark in the IPL 2025 on Monday.

By defeating Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball century against the Mumbai Indians in 2010, which had stood unchallenged for 15 years until Monday night, the 14-year-old Bihar hitter, who was playing for the Rajasthan Royals, broke the record for the quickest IPL century by an Indian.

In only 35 deliveries, Suryavanshi reached his century—the quickest by an Indian in IPL history and the second-fastest overall, after Chris Gayle’s illustrious 30-ball century—against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, when he reached a spectacular 101 off just 38 balls in just his third IPL game.

“The youngest player in IPL history to hit a century, Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, deserves congratulations and best wishes. He is just 14 years old. Because of his skill and dedication, he has emerged as a fresh hope for Indian cricket. Everyone is pleased with him. “I wished Vaibhav Suryavanshi a bright future when I met him and his father at 1 Anne Marg in 2024,” CM Nitish wrote on X.

In addition, Nitish said that he called the adolescent after his historic knock and wished the child well.

“I also called him to congratulate him on his outstanding IPL performance. The state government will also provide a Rs 10 lakh honorarium to young Bihar cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi. In the future, I hope Vaibhav sets new records for the Indian team and brings honor to the nation,” he said.

When RR acquired Suryavanshi for Rs 1.1 crore at the super auction last year, he became the youngest player to secure an IPL contract.
