have reportedly entered into discussions with about bringing back to Old Trafford before the end of his loan spell. The 27-year-old is in real danger of missing the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury, which has struck weeks before the most important summer transfer window of his career.

The original plan was to send Rashford to Villa Park for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign in the hope that he would rediscover confidence and form. He has held up his end of the bargain with 10 goal contributions in 17 Villa games, but his injury blow has thrown the final few weeks of the plan into disarray.

Rashford is not even eligible to feature in the last game of the season against parent club United, which gives him an even tighter turnaround to recover for the penultimate match, against Tottenham on May 18.

According to , discussions are taking place between United and Villa chiefs about what to do next. Recalling Rashford early is one of the scenarios on the table, despite Villa holding a £40million option to buy him permanently.

If they move to trigger it, Rashford will still have the final say on whether or not he remains in the West Midlands. And he said shortly after joining Villa on loan that his time at the club would only be ''.

The England international plans to hold crunch talks with United bosses by mid-June at the latest. But it has been suggested that he does not expect to have a future at Old Trafford while Ruben Amorim is in charge.

Speaking last week, United boss Amorim said he has no regrets about letting Rashford and Antony leave on loan midway through the season. "In January we lost Rashford and Antony and we didn't bring new ones. That was a risk," he admitted.

"We are trying to do something more important. But I think that there are things here that are more important than to score 10 more goals this season. We can hurt the squad now but in the future it is going to help the club so I think we are on that path."

Rashford was sidelined early in Amorim's reign and he could be crowded out of the squad entirely by the end of the summer window. United are expected to sign a striker to compete with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, while they have also been heavily linked with Matheus Cunha, who would be a natural fit on the left side of the front-three.
