Amman [Jordan], April 30: Driven by an outstanding performance in the girls’ division, India won 25 medals, including 11 golds, to lead the Asian U-15 Boxing Championships medal count.

The young Indian ladies won every championship fight they faced in the finals on Tuesday, solidifying their dominance in the competition with ten golds and four bronzes from their 15 weight appearances.

Komal (30-33 kg) defeated Kazakhstan’s Aiaru Onggarbek by a slim margin in a 3:2 split decision to begin the girls’ U-15 fights. According to a press statement from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), Khushi Ahlawat (35 kg) then defeated her opponent 4:1, and Tamanna (37 kg) completed her victory with a second-round RSC.

The girls’ U-15 team completed a perfect sweep in the finals with unanimous victories from Svi (40 kg), Milky Meinam (43 kg), Princi (52 kg), Navya (58 kg), Sunaina (61 kg), Trushana Mohite (67 kg), and Vanshika (70+ kg).

BFI President-Chairman, Interim Committee, Ajay Singh, commented on the success of the U-15 contingent from Amman, saying: “What a fantastic evening for Indian boxing. We were all proud to see India at the top of the charts and to hear the national anthem played eleven times. I want to express my sincere congratulations to our 25 Under-15 medalists for this incredible accomplishment; they have made the country proud and will go on to become our Olympic champions. However, India’s effort is still ongoing. On the last day, seven of our Under-17 boxers will compete in the finals, and we will be cheering them on from the sidelines. These performances support our prediction that India’s national anthem would be played often at boxing venues throughout the globe in the years to come.

The finals were contested by four Indian boys. In addition to the seven bronzes already earned, three athletes ended with silver medals, with Sanskar Vinod (35 kg) taking home one gold. Prior to the finals, which will take place on Wednesday, India was guaranteed 43 medals, including 25 in the U-15 and 18 in the U-17 categories.

Lakshay Phogat (64 kg), Abhijeet (61 kg), and Rudraksh Singh Khaidem (46 kg) all accepted silver against Iraq, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine, respectively.

On Day 11, the emphasis will switch to the U-17 finals, where seven Indian boxers will compete for gold and try to end the competition well.
