Looks like it’s not a great time to be a comedian or anyone popular on the internet, for that matter. Comedian Abhishek Upmanyu is currently in soup due to his response to a Pakistani social media user.

And as if the situation wasn’t already tense, the backlash intensified, ultimately leading him to deactivate his Twitter (now X) account.

It all started with an extremely abusive note for women across the border, reposted by Abhijit Iyer Mitra, and a user from Pakistan responded to the same. The reply read, “Zero class. Abuses is not equal to humour. The whole world sees your country as this hub of rapists and rightfully so. This is 'funny' according to the average Indian. You lot deserve all the racism you're facing in the west.”

Abhishek seemed to be in agreement with the social media user’s response and replied with a ‘Yup’ to it. And that’s precisely where it went down the drain, because how could he agree with someone from Pakistan, to begin with?

While the response was only partly right, the social media user from Pakistan stooped low too. The rest of whatever they said was unnecessary and kind of defeats the purpose of everything they want to highlight.

Ever since, Abhishek has been receiving a lot of flak for the comment, and it all went down to how he could agree with someone talking about racism and India being the hub of rapists, among other things.

One user commented, “Wtf Abhishek Upmanyu !!! Ashamed to ever think your were good”, while another mentioned, “Twitter didn’t spare Abhishek Upmanyu because he chose to stand with a Pakistani handle that insults Indians.”

Some also wrote, “Abhishek upmanyu is funny lol,” while another user pointed out, “Well Abhishek Upmanyu deserved that”.

With all that going on one hand, many people did not understand the controversy or the issue, to begin with, and were left wondering what’s actually wrong and what he did to face the backlash or have his account deleted/suspended.

As of now, his account stands deactivated after all the backlash, and the social media user from Pakistan, the handle being @lilmisskhawaja is withheld. The message says, “The account has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand”.

What part of any of this is okay, I will honestly not get!
