Courtroom dramas are always liked by the audience. A glowing example of a courtroom drama which is making noise at the box office is Akshay Kumars Kesari Chapter 2. The movie is about the aftermath of the barbaric massacre of Jallianwala Bagh on April 14. While these days the trend of such films has skyrocketed do you know 32 years back a film was released with the same setup and touched sensitive issues in society? Based on gang rape this film shook the nation and gave people a new way of thinking. Featuring big names of Bollywood including Rishi Kapoor Meenakshi Seshadri Sunny Deol and Amrish Puri the movie made an impact on the audience and left them thinking. If you are wondering which court drama we are discussing then it is the very famous film Damini. Written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi the film Damini was released on April 30 1993. The film was made for Rs 2.50 crore and turned out to be a huge hit earning Rs 11 crore gross worldwide. One of the biggest reasons for the movie to become a commercial success was Sunny Deols marvelous acting. While Sunny entered the film in the second half of it he gave a compelling performance as an advocate which touched the hearts of the audience. His power-packed dialogues such as Tareekh Pe Tareekh and Dhai Kilo Ka Haath are still loved by fans. On April 30 2025 the makers re-released the film on its 32nd anniversary.
