On Wednesday, Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), called on all political parties to put aside their differences and assist the BJP-led Central government in its choices regarding the Pahalgam terror assault, which killed 26 innocent people.
After the tragedy, she made the plea in the midst of internal party orders and escalating political tension.
“All parties should unite and support the government in every step taken by it regarding the Pahalgam terror attack,” Mayawati said in a post on X. Rather than engaging in covert political activities like posting posters and making remarks, etc., since this is confusing the public and detrimental to the nation.
Additionally, she warned the Congress and Samajwadi Party that the BSP would retaliate strongly if they attempted to disparage Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
The most renowned Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, who draughted the Indian Constitution, should not be humiliated in this instance. This should be a major concern for SP and Congress in particular; if not, the BSP may come to the streets to protest them.
Mayawati’s comments came after a dispute over a Congress post on X that was later removed and that the BJP criticised.
With the title “Jimmedari ke samay–—GAYAB (Invisible at the time of responsibility)”, the picture showed a guy in a kurta-churidar without a head or neck. The BJP said the image matched “Sar tan se juda” imagery directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In response to criticism, the Congress removed the tweet and ordered its officials to refrain from making spontaneous comments on the Pahalgam terror assault.
The party made it clear that its official stance was only expressed by senior leader Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, and approved AICC office-bearers.
K.C. Venugopal, the general secretary of Congress, stressed that any departure from the party’s stated position would be seen as a grave violation of discipline.
He restated the party’s “unwavering solidarity with the nation during this hour of grief” and its “deep anguish over the reprehensible terrorist attack in Pahalgam”.
Venugopal went on to say, “The Indian National Congress must exhibit unity, maturity, and responsibility—qualities that have defined its conduct throughout decades of national service, whether in government or opposition—at this crucial juncture when collective resolve is being tested.”
