Smeg just released its new soda maker for sparkling drinks all summer - and it's so chic

is probably best known for its colourful kitchen appliances, from pastel-hued kettles to bold pillar box red fridges. Now, the stylish, retro-reminiscent kitchenware brand has upped its game with a new soda maker that has arrived just in time for summer.

is possibly the most recognisable name in the soda maker market. It became popular in the 1970s, allowing owners to make soda water and even pop at home. Now, Smeg is bringing a new look to the Soda Maker world with the introduction of its . One of the most noticeable things about the appliance is its sleek aesthetic, compact enough to blend seamlessly on kitchen countertops without being too clunky.

The comes in four matte colours: teal, black, white, and blue. The machine doesn't require batteries or electricity. Instead, it can create up to 60 litres of sparkling water from a single screw-on CO2 canister (which creates the bubbles). That means you can use it in the kitchen or even carry it out into the garden for warm summer days.

Gas canisters must be purchased separately, and you must buy new ones over time.

The simple twist-knob at the front of the appliance allows users to decide just how bubbly they want their beverages. The control can be changed from a subtle sparkle to full-on fizz just by twisting the knob to your desired level.

There is also a magnetic drip tray below the main nozzle to prevent overflows or unwanted spills. Syrups can be added after carbonation to add flavour to water.

Smeg says that sustainability is the main property of the . The 800ml bottle attachment is reusable, made from 50% recycled plastic, and can be popped safely into the dishwasher. You can also buy additional bottles from the Smeg website.

The Smeg Soda Maker retails for £149.99, slightly more expensive than , which retails for £109.99 full price. That said, at the time of writing, Soda Stream is having a sale on its Terra model, reducing it to £59.99 for a limited time.

Soda Stream's newest model, the Enso, is more compatible with Smeg's Soda Maker in terms of design. However, the , slightly more expensive than Smeg.

Smeg and Soda Steam aren't the only options for buying a home soda maker, though. Plenty of off-brand versions are available on .
