A senior official said on Friday that, due to uncertainties surrounding tax duties, China will manufacture the great majority of iPhones for other countries, while Apple will source the bulk of iPhones sold in the US from India in the June quarter.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the business set quarterly records in many nations, including India, during the company’s second-quarter earnings call. However, the company’s sales in China, where it manufactured the most iPhones, fell for the sixth consecutive quarter.
During the June quarter, we anticipate that the vast majority of iPhones sold in the US will be made in India, and that almost all iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and AirPods items sold in the US will be made in Vietnam. The great majority of all product sales outside of the US will still originate in China, Cook said.
Apple sold 75.9 million iPhones in the US in 2024, according to S&P Global research. In March, the company exported 3.1 million iPhones from India, indicating that either additional capacity or rerouting shipments headed for the domestic market is required to double shipments.
