Delhi, Himachal among 8 states under IMD weather alert for rain and thunderstorms

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather alerts across multiple states, forecasting thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds over the coming days. These alerts are aimed at ensuring public safety and preparedness as severe weather conditions are expected to impact various regions.
Widespread thunderstorm and hailstorm warningsA major weather system that stretches from East Rajasthan to West and East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, and on to Gangetic West Bengal has been identified by the IMD. Severe thunderstorms with the potential for hailstorms and hazardous cloud-to-ground lightning are expected to spread throughout the area with this system.
Strong winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph are also anticipated in areas including Assam & Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, South Interior Karnataka, and Uttarakhand.
Regional alerts and forecasts
Delhi-NCR: The capital region is expected to experience rain and thunderstorms, providing relief from the recent heat. The IMD has issued a yellow alert, forecasting light rain and cooler temperatures, with maximum temperatures likely to remain between 34-36°C.

Himachal Pradesh: Until Sunday, there is an orange alert in effect for isolated areas due to hailstorms. Furthermore, districts including Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi are under a yellow warning until May 9 for lightning, thunderstorms, and strong winds of 30 to 50 kmph.
Southern states: The IMD has also issued a storm and rain alert for Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry for the next seven days. These regions are expected to experience rain accompanied by local storms and lightning.
