This actress was known for her straightforward nature and not only that she was the leading star of her time. Throughout her career she has given several superhit films and even became a leading actress of her time. However do you know there was a time when Suchitra turned down a film offered by Raj Kapoor? Yes thats correct! Suchitra in an old interview talked about Raj Kapoor and said that she was not very fond of him. Later in an interview with Amitabha Choudhury for his book Aamar Bondhu Suchitra Sen as quoted by Indian Express she said “In men I don’t look for beauty. I look for intelligence and sharp conversations. I had refused Raj Kapoor’s offer almost immediately.” Sen also recalled her experience after she received the films offer. She said “Raj Kapoor came to my residence offering a lead role and as I took my seat he suddenly sat near my foot and offered me a bouquet of roses while offering the role. I rejected the offer. I did not like his personality. The way he behaved – sitting near my foot – did not befit a man.” Meanwhile after reaching the peak of her career Suchitras luck changed and her last release – Pranay Pasha in 1978 – was a box office failure. She distanced herself from Indian cinema and decided to live a life in seclusion. In January 2014 she died at the age of 82 in a Kolkata hospital after struggling with a lung infection for several weeks.
