Besiktas claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Fenerbahce in the 34th round of the Turkish Super Lig, marking the first time in 20 years the Black Eagles have defeated their rivals both home and away in a single season.

Besiktas’ Gedson Fernandes redeemed himself after missing an earlier penalty, netting the winning goal in the 44th minute following a defensive lapse by Fenerbahce’s Mert Muldur.

Fenerbahce suffers blow to championship aspirations

The defeat dealt a serious blow to Fenerbahce’s championship hopes, as the team now trails league leader Galatasaray by eight points with four matches remaining, making a late title comeback highly unlikely.

Meanwhile, Besiktas climbs to 55 points, strengthening its hold in the race for third place.
