World’s tallest and smallest dogs become fast friends despite massive size difference

A pair of record-breaking dogs are proving that size doesn’t matter when it comes to friendship. The current holders of the Guinness World Records for the world’s tallest and smallest dogs met for a playdate last month, showcasing the bond between two very different pups.

Reggie, a 7-year-old Great Dane from Idaho, holds the title of the tallest living male dog at a towering 3-foot-3. On the other side, Pearl, a 4-year-old Chihuahua from Florida, is the world’s shortest living dog, measuring only 3.59 inches—three feet smaller than Reggie!

In early April, Pearl and her owner, Vanesa Semler, traveled to Idaho to meet Reggie and his owner, Sam Johnson. During their playdate, the two dogs shared a couch, with Reggie lowering himself to Pearl’s level while she scampered back and forth over his legs. Despite the huge size difference, the dogs quickly became friends.

Reggie, typically aware of his surroundings and accustomed to his towering height, was intrigued by Pearl, while she remained unphased by his size. Semler remarked that Pearl doesn’t seem to realize how small she is when meeting larger dogs.

While Reggie currently holds the title for the tallest living dog, he still falls short of Zeus, a Great Dane who once held the record at 3 feet, 6 inches. Pearl, on the other hand, surpassed her late relative Milly, who was the previous holder of the shortest dog record before her passing in 2020.
