When it comes to showcasing Punjabi fashion, no one does it quite like Diljit dosanjh. Making his Met Gala debut this year, the singer proudly embraced his Indian roots, radiating true Maharaja vibes in a stylish ensemble. He made a grand appearance in an ivory sherwani paired with a dramatic long cape, custom-designed by Prabal Gurung. Adding a deeply personal and standout element to his look, the cape was adorned with a powerful quote in Gurmukhi script that read, “Uthe Sardaar Gabbroo Jattan De Swaag Vaang Phirde Ne Punjab Laal.”

Diljit paired his sherwani with a white turban, richly adorned with golden embellishments and crowned with an elegant white kalgi, adding a regal touch to his Met Gala outfit. He completed his full Maharaja look by carrying a long sword, channeling a sense of bravery and royalty.

Diljit’s outfit is a celebration to Indian fashion and has a deeper meaning behind it. The singer chose this ensemble as a tribute to Maharaj Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, who was renowned for his opulent lifestyle and royal flair.

Also, Diljit made sure to elevate his Maharaja ensemble with the perfect accessories. Drawing attention majorly towards neckline, he wore a multi-layered necklace encrusted with precious gemstones. His jewellery gave a touch of royal grandeur to his appearance.

This year’s Met Gala theme is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. It’s inspired by Monica L Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, published in 2009. The Dress code “Tailored for You”, is a nod to the theme of suiting and menswear showcased in the exhibition.
