Pune: A 28-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to dispose of her body in a gunny sack by transporting it on a scooter in Maharashtra's Pune, Nanded area.
The accused, identified as Rakesh Nishar, a labourer originally from Uttar Pradesh, is suspected to have strangled his 26-year-old wife, Babita, following a domestic dispute at their residence in the Dhayari area of Pune. He was intercepted by a patrolling police team after they received a tip-off from a concerned citizen.

Body Found Stuffed in Gunny Sack

“The police control room received a call around 1.30 am about a man transporting a body on a scooter. A patrolling team intercepted the vehicle and found a woman's body stuffed in a gunny sack,” a police official confirmed.
The body was later confirmed to be that of Babita, who had reportedly been murdered just hours before the attempted disposal.

Swift Police Action

Thanks to the alert call and rapid response by Pune Police, the accused was arrested before he could dump the body. He has since been taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), India’s updated criminal code.
Initial investigations suggest that the couple had been experiencing marital discord, which may have escalated into violence. The police are now working to gather further evidence, including forensic reports and witness statements.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a full investigation is underway.
