Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, has been punished for his team’s poor over rate against the Gujarat Titans in Tuesday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match at the Wankhede Stadium.

Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakhs since it was his team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses. According to the IPL announcement, the other players in the starting lineup, including the Impact Player and the concussion replacement, were each fined Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their respective match salaries, whichever was lower.

Prior to this season, Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans), Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals), and Rishabh Pant (captain of the Lucknow Super Giants) were all punished for slow over-rate offenses.

Ashish Nehra, the head coach of the Gujarat Titans, was also penalized 25% of the costs for breaking Article 2.20, which deals with behavior that goes against the spirit of the game.

For violating the IPL Code of Conduct, Ashish Nehra, the head coach of the Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25% of his match costs and has also accrued one demerit point. He accepted the Match Referee’s sentence after admitting to the Level 1 infraction under Article 2.20, which deals with behavior that goes against the spirit of the game,” it said.

The Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct.

According to the IPL Code of Conduct, Article 2.20 is meant to encompass any behavior that goes against the spirit of the game and isn’t sufficiently and precisely addressed by the particular offenses listed elsewhere in the Code.

Due to a higher net run-rate, GT overtook Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and became the second team with 16 points after defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets (DLS method) in a rain-shortened last-ball drama. MI, meanwhile, dropped to fourth place.
