IIT Madras AI Course: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched five free courses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for students, teachers, and working professionals on its SWAYAM Plus portal. Eligible candidates can apply for the online courses till May 12, 2025, through the official website swayam-plus.swayam2.ac.in.
The Institute of Technology has launched free courses to make AI easier in various fields like Arts, Science, Commerce, and many more, IIT Madras said. The free courses include courses like AI in Physics, AI in Chemistry, Cricket Analytics with AI and AI and ML using Python.

R SARTHI, Dean (Planning), IIT Madras and SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, IIT Madras, said: “These programmes, which are aligned to the National Credit Framework (NCRF), can also be taken up by higher education institutions as credit programmes for the upcoming academic calendar. These courses aim to make AI accessible across all disciplines – not just for engineering students but also for students from arts, science, commerce and other fields.
Course Duration
The duration of each course will be 25 to 45 hours and it is an online course. These free AI courses are also aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCRF) and offer employment-focused practical activities, real datasets and case study-based learning certification options.
Who can take admission in this course
Candidates with all graduation and post-graduation degrees including engineering, commerce, arts, are eligible to take admission in the free programme. Apart from this, faculty members of higher education institutions can also take admission in the free course. Institute He said that no prior experience in AI or coding is required to start the programs and they have been developed by experts from the IIT Madras ecosystem based on deep academic and industry experience.
