In a remarkable show of courage and determination, 34-year-old Indore woman Gurdeep Kaur Vasu has set a historic record by clearing the Madhya Pradesh Board Class 12 exams, despite not being able to see, hear, or speak.As per results announced by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) on Tuesday, Gurdeep obtained 207 out of 400 marks with a second-division pass a feat achieved in exceptional circumstances. A First in State HistoryAccording to the reports, Gurdeep is the first student in the state's educational history to sit for the Class 12 exams in subjects such as English, Geography, Political Science, and Drawing & Designing despite her severe disabilities.Support System and Learning AidsIn accordance with MPBSE norms, a writer was made available to help her throughout the test. Interestingly, the writer was also deaf and mute as well, and the feat becomes all the more heartwarming and representative of the strength of inclusive education.For years, Gurdeep's education has been supported by Anand Service Society, an NGO working for the disabled. The director of the organisation, Monika Purohit, who is also an expert in sign language, explained Gurdeep's peculiar method of communication using tactile sign language with the help of hand and finger movements, as reported by news agency PTI.Special Braille books were also brought from Dehradun to assist Gurdeep in her exams.A Family's Celebration and Her AspirationsA wave of happiness greets Gurdeep's family.
