Deepika Padukone, who recently became a mother, opened up about her challenging postpartum journey during the Live Love Laugh Foundation Lecture Series on World Mental Health Day. In a candid conversation with Arianna Huffington, Deepika spoke about the emotional and physical toll that came with becoming a new mother, particularly the effects of sleep deprivation and burnout. She admitted that a lack of rest and self-care had a direct impact on her decision-making abilities, saying, “When you are sleep-deprived or burnt out, the decisions that you make... I think sometimes I can actually feel it.”
The actress emphasized the importance of acknowledging emotions instead of suppressing them. “It’s absolutely normal and human to feel pain, anger, and some of these extreme emotions and learning from that,” she said. Deepika’s words shed light on the mental health struggles many new mothers face but rarely talk about openly.
She also addressed the scrutiny she endured during her pregnancy, including online trolling where people questioned the authenticity of her baby bump. This reflects the larger societal issue of unrealistic expectations and judgment directed at women, especially those in the public eye. Despite the negativity, Deepika has remained grounded, choosing to focus on her own healing and well-being rather than conform to external pressures.
Fans have praised her for embracing motherhood with grace and honesty. Many appreciated how she isn’t rushing to meet unrealistic post-pregnancy beauty standards, with one fan noting, “Post-pregnancy DP is so sweet. I’m glad she’s taking her time with her body and not succumbing to any pressure.”
Professionally, Deepika is set to appear in Rohit Shetty’s 'Singham Again,' which she shot for during her pregnancy. Her ability to balance work and personal life serves as a powerful example of strength and resilience.
