Washington, DC [United States], The dispute between India and Pakistan is “fundamentally” “none of America’s business,” according to US Vice President JD Vance, and has nothing to do with the country’s capacity to exert control over the situation.
Vance said in an interview with Fox News that the US cannot intervene in the crisis, even though it may request that both sides de-escalate.
“India has fundamental grievances with Pakistan. We may attempt to persuade these people to defuse the situation a little bit, as Pakistan has reacted to India. However, we won’t interfere because they were essentially none of our business and it has nothing to do with America’s authority over it,” he said on Fox News.
Vance said the United States is worried about the potential collision of nuclear powers and is trying to prevent that from occurring.
“We want this situation to de-escalate as soon as possible because we are worried about nuclear powers clashing and starting a big confrontation at any moment. That is what we stated, as well as what Secretary Rubio and the President have said. However, he said in an interview with Fox News that “we can’t control these countries.”
He emphasized that the US is depending on diplomatic channels to avert escalation and cannot compel either nation to halt.
“Neither the Indians nor the Pakistanis can be ordered to put down their weapons by America. Therefore, we will keep pursuing this matter diplomatically. We hope and anticipate that this won’t turn into a larger regional crisis or, heaven forbid, a nuclear war,” he told Fox News.
Vance encouraged both countries to show prudence, adding that conflict would be catastrophic if it broke out.
Although we are concerned about these issues, I believe that diplomacy and the more sensible minds in India and Pakistan should work together to prevent a nuclear exchange. We don’t believe it will happen right now, but if it did, it would be devastating,” he added.
US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said Thursday (local time) that Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s top priority is to prevent further escalation in the face of growing tensions between India and Pakistan.
Bruce said at a news conference that communication is crucial and that the US has been actively working to mediate a peace agreement with both nations.
