Baramulla: The residents of border villages across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir are disproportionately affected by the growing tensions between India and Pakistan. People in the Uri area are still in pain since their means of subsistence have been damaged. Pakistan’s firing across the LoC has struck a number of stores in the border settlement.

“Those who have places or money would go there,” a citizen stated. However, our poverty prevents us from traveling. Where would we go? The shelling has to end.

Standing in front of the wreckage of his store, Sajjad Ahmed, a resident of the border community, said that the shelling by Pakistan was “injustice” to them and that it was a targeted slaughter of people.

“Shelling began last night after we closed our store. I discovered my business was totally destroyed this morning. It hurts so much. This is comparable to the targeted murder of people. We are dealing with injustice. I lost over 8–10 lakh rupees. Nothing remains here. Ahmed told the media outlet, “I had come to see what I could save, but nothing is left.”

Following the destruction of terrorist facilities at nine places in the neighboring nation as part of Operation Sindoor, which was initiated in reaction to the horrific Pahalgam terrorist assault, India and Pakistan have been at odds with one another.

Due to escalating tensions in the area, a total darkness was imposed in Jammu on Thursday after sirens were sounded and explosions were reported close to the Loc in the districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

In the Samba area of Jammu and Kashmir, the Border Security Forces (BSF) stopped a significant infiltration attempt at the International Border.

The effort was made on May 8 at around 11 p.m. The BSF Jammu posted on X that “At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K.”

The Indian Army also shot down two Pakistani drones in Jammu and Kashmir’s Naushera area, according to defense officials. During a fierce artillery battle between Indian and Pakistani soldiers, the drones were shot down.

The attacks, according to Indian authorities, targeted facilities associated with terrorist organizations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Indian authorities conducted the operation in response to the terrorist assault that claimed 26 lives in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22.
