Islamabad: The Pakistani government has appealed to its foreign allies for further loans as India’s Operation Sindoor continues to destroy the terrorist organization’s infrastructure and support system in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. As the markets were plunging, it also urged foreign allies to assist in defusing the situation.
The request was submitted by the Pakistani government on social networking site X using a verified account that was allegedly owned by the Government of Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Division.
The Economic Affairs Division of the Government of Pakistan wrote, X: “The Government of Pakistan is requesting additional loans from its international partners following significant losses caused by the enemy.” We call on foreign allies to assist in de-escalation amid the worsening conflict and stock market meltdown. The nation is exhorted to maintain its resolve.
The economy of Pakistan is in dire straits. The total amount Pakistan owed the IMF was around USD 8.8 billion. The fourth-largest IMF debtor is Pakistan. Stock market indicators also reflect the prevailing negative emotions. Since April 23, Pakistan’s benchmark KSE-100 index has dropped more than 7,500 points, or 6%. Moody’s cautioned Monday that a prolonged increase in tension with India might negatively affect Pakistan’s macroeconomic stability, fiscal consolidation, and development.
Pakistani military efforts to launch a massive drone and missile strike on many Indian military locations in Northern and Western India on the night of May 7-8 were successfully thwarted by the Indian Armed Forces on Thursday. Additionally, an Air Defense system in Lahore was neutralized.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, speaking at a press conference held by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday, said that the threats had been effectively neutralized by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defense systems. She said that the Indian Armed Forces hit many air defense radars and systems across Pakistan this morning in retaliation for Pakistan’s attempted strikes.
“The Indian Armed Forces attacked many Air Defense Radars and installations in Pakistan this morning. The Indian retaliation has been as intense as Pakistan’s in the same area. An air defense system in Lahore has been neutralized, according to trustworthy information,” she said.
Pakistan tried to use drones and missiles to attack several military targets in Northern and Western India on the evening of May 07–08, 2025, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. The Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defense systems eliminated them. According to Colonel Qureshi, the wreckage of these assaults is now being retrieved from many sites that attest to the Pakistani attacks.
The Indian Army said that repeated drone assaults and ceasefire breaches by Pakistan along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir were effectively repulsed and forcefully reacted to by the Indian Army during the intervening nights of May 8 and May 9.
The Army said, “On the intervening night of May 8 and 9, 2025, the Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks along the entire Western Border using drones and other munitions.” Along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani forces also engaged in a number of ceasefire violations (CFVs). The drone strikes were successfully repelled, and the CFVs received a suitable response. The Indian Army is still dedicated to defending the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Every malicious scheme shall be met with force.
According to sources who spoke to the media report. the Indian Army conducted a massive counter-drone operation at the LoC and International Borders (IB) earlier on Thursday, shooting down over 50 Pakistani drones.
