has divided opinion, this time over her arrangement with Mark Petchey. The tennis coach has been helping Raducanu out since the Miami Open, but the world No. 49 recently as Petchey also works as a commentator for Tennis Channel.
However, fellow British tennis star recently raised concerns about their partnership, if Petchey was busy in the comms box while Raducanu was out losing matches. Tennis fans have now made it clear that Petchey is the right man for the job, but they are split on Raducanu's ad-hoc agreement with her coach.
Raducanu has been left without a full-time mentor since Nick Cavaday left her team in January, citing health issues. Since then, she has temporarily turned to childhood mentor Roman Kelecic, while a brief trial period with Vladimir Platenik proved unsuccessful.
The former US Open champion has now reunited with Petchey, who previously helped her out in 2020. The British tennis coach has been in Raducanu's corner for her last three tournaments - Miami, Madrid and now Rome. They also had a training block in Los Angeles together.
But Petchey's full-time role as a Tennis Channel commentator has made things tricky. For now, Raducanu says nothing has been made formal, and he continues to fit her in around his media duties.
Their casual arrangement has fans split, as Express Sport readers can't agree on whether Raducanu and Petchey should make things official.
One thing is evident - 89 per cent want Petchey to stay in some capacity. But of those, 44 per cent believe Raducanu is right to keep things "informal" while 45 per cent want them to come to a formal coaching agreement.
Ideally, the 22-year-old will find someone to share duties with Petchey when he's busy in the commentary booth.
For now, big sister figure Jane O'Donoghue has taken leave from her finance job to travel with Raducanu, but that won't last forever.
While fans would like to see Petchey stay in the team in some capacity, former world No. 21 Dan Evans recently suggested that Raducanu would soon need to find a new coach entirely.
"It can't last if she starts losing matches and Petchey is in the commentary box. That's not going to work," he told .
"I think Emma will be looking for a new coach again pretty soon if she starts to lose some matches on the grass into the US swing. I'm not sure how that can last as it is."
Up until now, Petchey had been able to make things work and was spotted in Raducanu's corner throughout the WTA 1000 events in Miami and Madrid.
But, earlier this week in Rome, he had to cover for Tennis Channel and could not watch on from the box.
