TV actress Hina Khan has been targeted on social media following her expression of support for the Indian Army’s recent anti-terror operation, Operation Sindoor. The outspoken and nationalist actress had posted a detailed note on Saturday denouncing the barrage of hate and abusive mails she received for her expression of national pride.
Hina, who is a Kashmiri, did not let the trolls faze her in her reply to them. She made it unambiguously clear that to stand up for her nation was something she would never apologize or back down on.
“I Will Always Be an Indian First”
In her post, Hina mentioned the abuse on social media aimed at her, including insults on a personal level regarding her health, religion, and family. “Many of you abused me, cursed me, many have unfollowed me. Many more threatening to unfollow me,” she said. “This threat is followed by abuses, salacious and degrading hate directed not only to me but to my medical condition, my family and even my faith.”
She added that while she had always experienced affection from people across the border, the recent wave of hostility has been deeply disappointing. However, Hina emphasized that she remains unfazed and firm in her beliefs. “I will always be an Indian first. So, go ahead. Unfollow me. I don’t care.”
Call for Humanity and Mutual Respect
Hina asked her detractors to act with dignity, pointing out that she has never insulted anybody from the opposite side. “I don’t expect you to support my nation. You support yours, it’s fine. I only hoped that you will behave at least as humanly as I have been towards all of you.”
She concluded her statement with a very strong message about values and identity: “What you say defines you. What you choose defines your ideology. How you behave in difficult times reflects your depth as a human being. It has nothing to do with me.”
Tensions Rise Between India and Pakistan
Hina’s tweet is at a time of escalated hostilities between India and Pakistan, after a series of terror-related provocations. India’s rapid riposte, Operation Sindoor, hit terror camps along the border, eliciting national approval as well as international condemnation.
