Ahead of the England series, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli shocked fans by declaring their retirement from Test cricket. The shorter forms had previously been abandoned by both. Now, they will just concentrate on ODI cricket.
Rohit Sharma has also underlined the significance of ODIs in his career, while Virat Kohli has already expressed a desire to participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Sunil Gavaskar, a former cricket player for Team India, thinks none of them will probably play in the 2027 World Cup, however. He believes that Virat and Rohit cannot possibly continue till then.
Although both players excel in one-day international matches, he said that the biggest concern for 2027 is whether they will be able to sustain the same degree of aggressiveness and consistency. The selecting committee has the last say on such matters. They could be selected for the tournament if the selectors think they are still competent.
In his view, Rohit and Virat may not be able to play in the 2027 World Cup, according to Gavaskar. He did concede, however, that nothing would prevent them from joining the team provided they kept up their strong play and scored hundreds.
