The construction of Juhi Yard Junction, which would relieve the overcrowded Kanpur Central Station, is expected to provide Kanpur a significant boost in the effort to reduce railway congestion. More than 30 lakh people in South Kanpur will now have easier travel thanks to the Railway Board’s approval of the building of four platforms at Juhi Yard.
There are now 288 trains that go through Central every day. About 50 trains will be moved to these other sites as a result of the construction of Juhi Yard and continuous improvements at the stations in Govindpuri and Panki Dham. In addition to reducing congestion, this action will increase long-distance trains’ punctuality.
Juhi Yard’s foundation was laid over three years ago. With intentions to reroute trains straight from Delhi and Jhansi to Prayagraj via this junction, the scope, which was initially allowed for two platforms, has now been enlarged to four. A plot of land has been set aside for platform building next to the coal siding.
Efforts are also being made to complete the Delhi–Howrah distance in 12 hours as part of Mission Raftaar. Along the line, new station projects and boundary barriers are being accelerated.
Improvements are already being made to Govindpuri station:
– The widest footbridge on the North Central Railway is completed.
– Plans are in place for trains to fill with water.
– Continuous platform and office upgrades
– Elevators and automated ticket-selling machines are now being installed.
– There are more regular and extraordinary train stoppages.
Improvements to passenger amenities are being made at Govindpuri, Panki Dham, and Anwarganj as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana. The director of Kanpur Central, Ashutosh Singh, stated, “Rail is constantly enhancing passenger infrastructure. There will be noticeable changes shortly.
In a direct approach to the Railway Minister in Delhi, MP Ramesh Awasthi has also pressed for a quicker completion of the Juhi Yard project.
